Ok, so I had all this great stuff written and then it disappeared into cyberspace and I have to go and do actual work....so later for the next installment.
I'll leave you with my favorite bumper sticker from Alaska:
Guns cause violence like flies cause garbage.
Have a great weekend.

I've enjoyed reading your Alaska commentary so far and I look forward to the next installment. One of my all-time favorite essays was written by John Muir, the naturalist, and it's about him and a dog stuck on an Alaskan glacier. The title is "Stickeen," which is the dog's name. I can't read it anymore because I turn into a crybaby and I don't really know why.
Anyway, there is no substitute for natural beauty and I'm fortunate to live only a half day's drive to The Grand Canyon. Every time I visit, the sense that something greater was at work for such a masterpiece to be created is confirmed. And regardless of attempts to describe such magnificence, they don't come close to what it really looks like. Heaven, to me, could almost be walking the Rim Trail with a light snow falling and the hint of fog smudging the purples and oranges of the cliffs. A beautiful, but brutal and deadly place from which dreams arise.
